The creation of the Longden Parish footpaths group (LP3) was one of the first initiatives resulting directly from responses to the parish Survey.
Since its formation last summer local volunteers have been working with the officers of Shropshire Council’s Countryside Access Team to monitor and improve the public rights of way in our parish. All materials and tools are provided free by Shropshire Council – the local volunteers provide the labour. Initially, volunteers from the well established Pontesbury P3 group joined LP3 to show them the ropes but our group is now catching up fast. So far they have tackled the re-building and repair of about 14 stiles on footpaths and bridleways across the parish starting with the paths from Great Lyth via Annscroft to Moat Hall and Wood Hall. They have now moved on to the circuit of paths from Longden to Exfords Green and Lower Common. As well as clearing vegetation and fixing way markers where appropriate, they are bringing all the stiles on these paths up to a new standard to include two steps and a dog gate. This should make Longden’s paths much more accessible for all and a great asset to our community.
More volunteers would enable the group to make even more progress. If you would like to help the contact details are:
